Beens Groep is a family-owned company with a bold ambition: to achieve zero-emission operations by 2050. That ambition demands smart decisions, clear priorities, and partners who understand how to drive real progress — even without a formal reporting requirement. That’s why Beens Groep brought in The Overview Effect to support their CO₂ Performance Ladder efforts and broader sustainability strategy.
The Challenge
The collaboration began in anticipation of a potential CSRD trajectory. But when the legislation was temporarily delayed, Beens Groep didn’t hit pause — they chose to move forward. Without the pressure of mandatory reporting, the focus shifted to building a solid internal foundation.
What we did together
- Redesigned CO₂ data structure and calculation models
The existing setup was inefficient. The Overview Effect helped redesign the system from the ground up — simple, scalable, and ready for the future.
- Hands-on support for the CO₂ Performance Ladder
From a strong kickoff with leadership to in-depth content support and a clear summary ahead of the audit — the process was smooth, and buy-in was strong.
- Mapped material ESG topics
Together, we created an initial selection of relevant ESG themes that Beens Groep can use as the backbone of their long-term sustainability strategy.
- A sparring partner for the sustainability lead
As a “team of one,” it matters to have someone to think things through with. “It’s valuable to be able to check in with someone who understands the content,” says Anneké Slenters, who leads sustainability at Beens Groep.
The results
- More efficient data structure & clear CO₂ processes
Legacy data systems were no longer fit for purpose. We simplified and future-proofed them — so Beens Groep can now collect, analyze, and apply emissions data faster and with more focus.
- Prepared for future reporting obligations
While CSRD doesn’t apply (yet), Beens Groep wants to be ready. The approach we developed — from materiality and governance to policy — creates a strong foundation for future compliance.
- Stronger internal support through clear communication
Sustainability isn’t a solo job. By introducing the topic in an accessible way to leadership and teams, there’s now greater ownership across the company. Focused sessions, short summaries, and practical input helped build momentum without adding complexity.
- Flexible support when it matters
Not bloated consulting — just help where it’s needed. Whether for content, sparring, or a second opinion. That flexibility built trust, brought clarity, and moved things forward.
“They do excellent work, they’re great to work with, and they genuinely think with you. It’s not a ‘we’ll just fix it for you’ mentality — it’s puzzling together until it fits.”
— Anneké Slenters, Sustainability Lead, Beens Groep
What’s next?
Beens Groep is looking ahead — with a clear ambition, a committed team, and standout projects that bring sustainability to life. Like their custom-built hydrogen charging station on a floating pontoon — designed for emission-free construction from the water. Or the Bleekerseiland project, where old wind turbine blades were repurposed into urban furniture.
“We’re getting awarded more and more emission-free projects. That’s no coincidence. You have to be structurally preparing as a company.”
Beens Groep is doing just that and The Overview Effect is proud to support them along the way.
